What do you do when you fall in love with your best friend’s boyfriend?
That is the question that twenty-six year-old Justine Sterling has been asking herself ever since the day she met David Whitman, her best friend Renee’s boyfriend. Justine is determined to ignore her growing feelings for the irresistibly charming David, until one night, when she finds herself in the bed of the one person she should stay away from.
When Justine and David’s affair ends in heartbreak, Justine is forced to repair the damaged friendship with her best friend. In doing so, she learns that right and wrong decisions aren’t always black and white, and sometimes you have to follow your heart to see where it leads.
Love Bites is a refreshing take on the classic girl meets boy story. Justine is so easy to relate to and her situation is one that I’m sure some people could relate to. Being a magnet for bad men is never fun, and Justine seems to be in a never-ending dating cycle with horrible results.
The relationship between Justine and her best friend, Renee, is shown through present day moments and flashbacks to the incident that temporarily ripped their friendship apart. You can understand it from both women’s point of view and you really feel for them, especially since they were torn apart because of one man after years of solid friendship.
Justine goes through a crisis; no job, no home, no boyfriend. Wondering what she should do, Justine seeks answers wherever she can get them: her old job, her old life, her old flame. This, obviously, just leads to more disaster.
Enter the dashing Walter, real estate giant. With Justine feeling on solid ground for the first time in a while after becoming good friends with him, all seems to be going well.
Love Bites had me bouncing through emotions as I rooted for Justine to get it together and get the life of her dreams. I laughed out loud at some of the character exchanges and wanted to throw my Kindle across the room when Justine kept making the same silly mistakes over and over. I couldn’t put this book down.
