I am so glad to be participating in this series once again. I tried to stick to it when I was dabbling in BookTube, but I was never able to stick to a routine when filming and editing and so I never got the chance to actually join in with this hugely popular series.
With the new year here, it’s time to jump in! Today’s topic is 2017 Goals.
1. Lose Weight/Get Fit
I’ll get the obvious one out of the way first, I suppose. When I last went to the doctor to get my contraceptive pill prescription refilled, the doctor did the usual blood pressure and weight measurements. I got that disapproving look and told that my BMI is in the Obese sector for my height/age and current weight. As it stands, I’m about 3 stone overweight – even though I don’t look remotely that heavy! – and so my main goal of 2017 is to shift some of the extra weight and get fitter in the process (I’ve been skinny before and still seriously unfit!)
2. Save Some Money
This is probably on a lot of people’s lists too but it’s an important one for me. When I moved out of my parents’ house for the first time at the end of 2015, I had a little over £1000 in my savings account. While this might not seem like a lot to some people, it was impressive for me – I’m a serial spender! Cut to the end of 2016 and I have £20 in my savings account right now due to all the trips I made in 2016. I don’t regret spending the money because I took advantage of some amazing opportunities, but it would be nice to have a money buffer again!
3. Write More
In 2016, I started one new novel and did a little bit of writing during the NaNo months but for the most part, 2016 was a dry spell in my writing career. In 2017, I want to write at least three or four first drafts this year and revise a couple other manuscripts. I want to focus a lot on my writing this year and make it a priority since I haven’t done that in a while.
4. Finish My University Degree
I’ve been studying towards my BA in English Literature since 2012 with the Open University and I’ve loved every minute of it. I took a year out to settle some of my other projects down a bit so that I would feel less stressed about things in general and I feel this was a good decision. I’ll be enrolling in my final module in the summer, ready to start in October 2017. By the time June 2018 rolls around, I’ll finally have my degree!
5. Interact With People More On Social Media
This is the big one for me, I think. I love scrolling through my Twitter feed and checking out the NaNoWriMo groups on Facebook, but I very rarely interact unless someone talks to me first. In 2017, I want to connect with people more. I want to have conversations and make friends. I want to build on the relationships I’ve already formed. In general, I want to be a more sociable person without having to leave the house.
So that’s my goals for 2017! What are yours?
Have a great day x
