I was sent this hilarious looking kid’s book by Stripes Publishing. I’ve been meaning to pick up Jones’s books in the past and never got around to it so I’m glad that I’ll get a chance to read one finally.
The Pet Defenders Code: 1. The Earth’s safety is your primary goal. Defend it. 2. Protect humans from the truth. Good luck – you’re going to need it!
From Gareth P. Jones, winner of the Blue Peter Award and author of successful young series fiction, including Ninja Meerkats, comes a brand-new comic caper. The Secret Life of Pets meets The X Files – Pet Defenders are secret agents with a difference.
It’s up to Mitzy and Biskit to save the world from alien invasions – just so long as they can stop fighting like cat and dog for long enough to do it!
Secret agent Biskit is not happy when he discovers his new partner Mitzy is a cat – everyone knows that cats and dogs don’t mix. But saving the earth from alien invasions always comes first for the Pet Defenders and Nothington-on-Sea is under attack. A cluster of cow pats has rolled into town and they’re really whipping up a stink. It’s time for Biskit and Mitzy to put aside their differences and kick some alien butt!
For fans of funny and action-packed animal adventures including Andrew Cope’s Spy Dog series, Astrosaurs and Jeremy Strong.

Also from Stripes this week, I got the newest book in the Red Eye horror series. I’m excited but also very nervous to read this one because I am such a scaredy cat when it comes to horror and yet I love reading them!
We are the trees. We are the snow.
We are the winter.
We are the peace. We are the rage.
Cut off from civilization by the harsh winter of northern Sweden, the Stromberg family shelter in their old plantation house. There are figures lurking in the ancient pine forests and they’re closing in. With nothing but four walls between the Strombergs and the evil that’s outside, they watch and wait for the snows to melt.
But in the face of signs that there’s an even greater danger waiting to strike, it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish reality from illusion. All they’ve got to do is stay sane and survive the winter…

I was sent a copy of this glorious book from the wonderful people over at Canongate. It sounds like it’s going to be an amazing read and I’ll probably be picking it up fairly soon.
A darkly funny and spectacularly original exploration of friendship, goodbyes—and spontaneous combustion.
Mara Carlyle’s senior year is going as normally as could be expected, until—wa-bam!—fellow senior Katelyn Ogden explodes during third period pre-calc.
Katelyn is the first, but she won’t be the last teenager to blow up without warning or explanation. As the seniors continue to pop like balloons and the national eye turns to Mara’s suburban New Jersey hometown, the FBI rolls in and the search for a reason is on.
Whip-smart and blunt, Mara narrates the end of their world as she knows it while trying to make it to graduation in one piece. It’s an explosive year punctuated by romance, quarantine, lifelong friendship, hallucinogenic mushrooms, bloggers, ice cream trucks, “Snooze Button™,” Bon Jovi, and the filthiest language you’ve ever heard from the President of the United States.
Aaron Starmer rewrites the rulebook with Spontaneous. But beneath the outrageous is a ridiculously funny, super honest, and truly moving exemplar of the absurd and raw truths of being a teenager in the 21st century . . . and the heartache of saying goodbye.

Finally, I picked up a copy of this book from Waterstones on Friday because literally everyone on my Twitter feed is raving about this book and I now need to read it immediately.

With a grandmother from China and another from Ghana, fifteen-year-old Wing Jones is often caught between worlds. But when tragedy strikes, Wing discovers a talent for running she never knew she had. Wing’s speed could bring her family everything it needs. It could also stop Wing getting the one thing she wants.
